15 minutes of fame is short-lived, often ephemeral, media publicity or celebrity of an individual or phenomenon. The expression was coined by Andy Warhol, who said in 1968 that “In the future, everyone will be world-famous for 15 minutes.” The phenomenon is often used in reference to figures in the entertainment industry or other areas of popular culture, such as reality TV and YouTube. It is believed that the statement was an adaption of a theory of Marshall McLuhan, explaining the differences of media, where TV differs much from other media using contestants.

The expression is a paraphrase of a line in Warhol’s exhibition catalog for an exhibit at the Moderna Museet, in Stockholm from February to March 1968.[1] The catalog read, “In the future, everyone will be world-famous for 15 minutes.”[2] In 1979 Warhol reiterated his claim, “…my prediction from the sixties finally came true: In the future everyone will be famous for 15 minutes.”[3] Becoming bored with continually being asked about this particular statement, Warhol attempted to confuse interviewers by changing the statement variously to “In the future 15 people will be famous” and “In 15 minutes everybody will be famous.”[4][5]

THE THOUGH OF BEING FAMOUS FOR 15 MINUTES is probably one that has passed through the minds of many. The feeling of the high you get from the excitement of knowing ALL EYES are on you, even if it is short-lived, it is an experience that remains with you for life.

WHY IS THAT….is it that you feel you accomplished something with your life that before the recognition you had not? Is it the joy of knowing others understand and appreciate your talents? Perhaps, it is because for so long you worked so hard for so little money to make what you feel become part of everybody’s else consciousness. Think about it…what was it like just a minute before your 15 minutes became reality, life seamed to be as it always was, the daily routines were the same, people looked and talked to you as they always did ! THEN IT HAPPENED!!! EXPOSURE you were getting calls from family and friends, from people you never heard of….the rush that …THIS IS IT. You feel like you are on top of the world. All the hard work, the nights spent relentlessly pursuing your goals, the thinking and feeling that it will NEVER HAPPEN!!!! then it does, you say to yourself, how can I make this feeling stay with me the rest of my life, what do I have to do to maintain this status quo??? The answer lies within each and every one of us but getting in touch with that reality is the hardest thing you can every do. People say you have to believe in yourself, others say you have to remain focused and work hard and have a creative mind…that will get you there every time? I looked at what in todays times brings fame and fortune, yes it is hard work, yes it sometimes has to do with creativity, but I think chance plays a great role in todays “15 minutes of fame” Look at the reality tv shows that turn people of less than desirable life status into everyday celebrities, so many of them wouldn’t know what creativity is. BUT….then there is…YOU, enjoy the feeling if you are so fortunate to be able get this but if not understand what you are doing is important to you and others and if fame comes…FANTASTIC…but life should be more than just that, enjoy what you have, never be content with the status quo and keep going after your dreams, you too may be able to have your 15 minutes in the spotlight
